Dear Iris,
My parents are really ticking me off and my best friend feels the same way!We want to know how we can resolve our "issues" without blowing up at them...sometimes we just want to get in their faces and scream at them. When we were younger, I never really did this...why is it that we almost hate our parents? Please help.

Dear Nance,
Teenage years are tough on everyone...teens and parents. I suggest you just fly a flag of truce and sit down with mom to figure out how to live together without killing one another or making both of your lives miserable! One of the normal and necessary things that you have to accomplish during your teen years is separating yourself emotionally from your parents. It is a time when you are trying on different ideas and points of view, so you will naturally have conflicts with your mom and dad. Although you can't see it now, in the end when you are grown you will probably end up more like them than you think you will! In the meantime, try to be respectful of their views just as you want them to be considerate of yours. Screaming won't get you anywhere and does not show you are maturing. I am sure you can think of more convincing ways to communicate.
Goodluck.
