More than 12 million African children have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS, and the number is expected to grow to 20 million by 2010. The HERO program works with schools in Ethiopia, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia. At HERO schools, kids can receive basic care and services such as food programs, clean water, counseling and visiting nurses.
HERO brings together teens just like you, to get involved and help improve education, health care, HIV/AIDS prevention and life skills for kids and teens around the world.
In the summer of 2006, a group of 11 amazing teens did just that. As the first-ever HERO Youth Ambassadors, they gave up their summer vacations to work together with Africans in HIV/AIDs-affected communities in Namibia and South Africa.
And now, a new group of 21 HERO Youth Ambassadors has made the journey. Check out the '08 Youth Ambassadors and watch their adventures.
