Why Does My Vagina Itch?

Hi BeingGirl Experts,

I was just wondering: I have itching on my private parts. I already had sex with my boyfriend, but he doesn't have any kind of disease. I'm not sure what it is and I'm worried.

Hailey

---

Dear Hailey,

First of all, you really don't know if your partner is free of infection. Sometimes males may have a sexually-transmitted infection with NO symptoms. I would definitely not rule out a STD.

But there are many reasons why you may have a vaginal itch. You may have a yeast infection or another type of vaginal infection, you may be having a reaction to a new detergent your mom uses to wash your clothes, or sometimes an itch is just an itch.

If you have tried some of the over-the-counter vaginal itch medications, and you do not get relief, I suggest you let your mom know about this and ask your health care professional about it.

Good luck,

BeingGirl Experts

If you use liners on a regular basis for like discharge and odor control itching and irritation may occur. To avoid this I put on a clean liner first thing every morning, I put a clean one on after school, and I put a clean one on before bed so I don't get stained if my period catches me by surprise. I use Carefree regular length and absorbency liners. I NEVER have comfort issues with them, they really do form and move with you. Make sure you regularly change your liner to prevent infections, that's where itching can come in. The heat, sweat, and of course your natural body fluids create bad stuff.

Sometimes my area itches I so hate because when I'm in public it gets itchy and while I'm in school or in front of my parents. But sometimes when you scratch it it still won't help

Don't worry nobody is perfect, and I think that every woman has and itch once or twice. It's totally normal. But it could also mean you have and infection or something in that matter. But if the itching doesn't stop, you should talk to your mom, ask your doctor, or even both (I recommend both). But if you don't want advice from me don't take it, but I am glad if I helped. If I did please tell me!! Thanks!!

Sometimes I get itchy "down there" too. And I think it's totally normal. I don't really think I have an infection or anything. Before I even realize it, the itch is gone. :S
