Why Am I Spotting?

Dear BeingGirl Experts,

I am writing to ask why I am bleeding in-between my periods. Could there be any reason for it? I am 27 years old and sexually active. I had a Pap smear last November which came back clear. I have been seeing bright red spotting in between my periods. It is not a lot, but I am worried there may be something wrong. I have mentioned this to my GP, and he said it was normal. He did not do an examination. I am not on the pill, but have tried nearly all of them, and they give me a migraine headache. Should I be worried or not? Please let me know.

Thank you,

Joanne

Dear Joanne,

Many girls/women spot in-between their periods. Usually it is related to ovulation and occurs about 14 days prior to the onset of the next menstrual period. If your doctor is not worried, I would not be upset. Keep a menstrual calendar and note when you menstruate and when you spot. Bring this with you to your next gynecological appointment and let the doctor check out your pattern.
