Okay, so you have a picture of your favorite rock star above your desk. And another one inside your locker at school. Not to mention the one on your binder. In fact, just about anywhere you look, he's peering out at you.

And then there's that guy at school you have a crush on—you know, THAT guy—the one you look at for too long, and hope he doesn't notice.

Chances are that your favorite musician and your crush are very, very different people. And when you think about your last crush, and the one before that, you might start to wonder, "What type of guy is right for me?"

What type of guy is right for me checklist

Well, think about it. You can even make a list of the guys you've had crushes on (just make sure to keep it somewhere private) and write down qualities you like or liked in each of the guys.

Now, this list isn't meant to be a checklist you hold up to every guy you meet from this day on, but if you're actually thinking about what type of guy is right for me, you might want to make sure they have the most important qualities. While you're at it, write down the qualities you like in a friend, too, because sometimes (hopefully!) a boyfriend or love interest is your best friend as well.

Maybe the thing you like most in a friend and in a crush is that he or she is considerate. Well, then maybe you'll think twice before dating the class jerk—no matter how cute he is. Maybe the most important thing to you is a sense of humor. Recognizing this might help you single out someone you'd never really thought about before. What about that really funny guy in your English class? You might want to think about getting to know him better, whether as a crush OR as a friend.

Being honest with yourself about what type of guy is right for me and thinking about what qualities are important to you in a crush or in a friend is an important step on the road to self-discovery and adulthood. It will make you think twice about people you hang around with, and might inspire you to make new friends!
