Dear BeingGirl Experts,

What should you do when you have cramps?

Dear Jody,

Cramps are caused by the contraction of your uterus during menstruation (your period). They usually mean the uterine muscles are contracting too hard or too fast. Cramps can be felt in your lower abdomen, in your back, or even down your legs.

With mom’s permission try using an over the counter pain killer with IBUPROFEN as the active ingredient. Make sure you follow the package directions for your age. You may also try taking a warm bath or place a hot water bottle on your abdomen. Some teens find mild exercise help relieve menstrual pain. If the pain still is not managed with this medication, then you need to see your doctor/health care provider.

Hope this helps,

I'm not very lucky when it comes to cramps, I've had a few but haven't had my period yet, so it will come soon. With my cramps, I get the runs (yeah, you know what I mean) And some women and girls have that kind of cramp, so I don't even imagine what it will be like WITH my period.....
