What Is Rape? Dear BeingGirl Experts, What is rape? I think I was raped a year or so ago, but I'd had a lot to drink, and I'm really not sure??? All I know is when I woke up, I was sore and bleeding from my vagina, but I was alone! Dazed and Confused --- Dear D & C, Rape is forced sex or penetration. A rapist may use: Physical force (holding down or beating up the victim). Threat of force (threatening to use a weapon or hurt the victim). Drugs or alcohol (getting someone drunk, putting a date rape drug in someone's drink, taking advantage of the fact that someone is drunk or high). It is also rape if an adult (someone 18 or older) has sex with someone under the age of 16. If you were too drunk to consent to sexual intercourse, and your partner had sex with you anyway, you were raped. You may want to report this to a trusted friend and/or pursue legal action against the guy. FYI, The Bureau of Justice Statistics reports that every two minutes, somewhere in America, someone is sexually assaulted. In 2000, there were 261,000 victims of rape, attempted rape, or sexual assault (National Crime Victimization Survey, Bureau of Justice Statistics). Of those victims, 114,000 were victims of sexual assault, 55,000 were victims of attempted rape, and 92,000 were victims of completed rape. Good luck, BeingGirl Experts Questions about what is rape?
