Back to My Body & Wellness Questions
Dear BeingGirl Experts,
I have a very sincere feeling that my friend is going bulimic. She used to be my best friend! Well, she doesn't eat anything except junk food and even then, not very much. After she eats, she is seen in the bathroom. Who knows if she is throwing up. I'm worried about her. What can I do?
A bulimic usually eats large amounts of food or inappropriate foods (like your friend), and then purges it by either vomiting or the use of laxatives. If you think your friend is bulimic, you should talk to your guidance counselor, who is a trusted and competent adult, and tell her/him what you suspect. S/he will know how to approach your friend. You can be a supportive friend, but you won't be able to understand or help change this kind of behavior. She's lucky that you care so much and are so concerned.
