Vaginal Discharge Before Period

Dear BeingGirl Experts,

I have a discharge between my periods. Is it safe to use tampons then?

Thanks,

Nanjojo

---

Dear Nanjojo,

Tampons should not be used for absorbing vaginal discharge. Tampons are designed for menstrual protection only and should not be worn for any other reason. When inserted into a vagina where there is no menstrual fluid, the tampon absorbs too much moisture from the walls of the vagina, changing the environment. This change may put you at a higher risk for toxic shock syndrome when you are not menstruating. If you want to protect your underwear from daily discharge use a pantiliner.

Hope this is helpful,

It's never safe to do that. Using tamps in between can be harmful.
