Some of the symptoms of toxic shock syndrome or TSS are like the flu, but they can become serious quickly.

TSS symptoms include:

  • rising body temperature (102 degrees Fahrenheit [38.8 degrees Celsius] or higher)
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • a sunburn-like rash
  • muscle aches
  • dizziness
  • fainting, or near fainting when you stand up

A person who has had TSS can develop it again. If a woman has had TSS before, she should talk to a doctor before using tampons again.

XxHoloxX i would suggest that you wear pads at night especially since you dont get that exact amount of sleep. and also just to be safe. then you could wear tampons during the day.

This is why I fear tampons TSS. Even though it's rare I'm not going through the risk because I don't always get exactly eight hours asleep

I'm naturally dizzy and feel like I'll fall when I stand up, so that's really useful :/ (Sarcasm)

I would suggest you look at the full version of this 'What is TSS?' It'll realy help! Not only girls get it--Men can get it as well. It IS fatal when it gets really bad. Be careful and use tampons for swimming, gymnastics, and other sports that wouldn't go good with just a pad. I reccomend Always. :)It can't run in your family and you can't get it from others. You CAN get it from surgery, insect bites, burns and tampons. Its caused by toxins. I learned this from here! I hope it helps!

TSS can't run in the family. It's more like an infection (think UTI) than it is a disease (think cancer). So, even if it happened to your mom; as long as you keep clean, you'll be fine.

I only use tampons when i am going somewhere and i need extra protection, Ill use a tampon and a pad at the same time. Girls, please take out your tampon every 4-8 hours. And i wouldnt reccomend sleeping all night with a tampon in either. Use an over night pad. Always brand has a super good one. (:

Hey! My grandmother (When she still had her period, which stopped last year. She was a young grandmother. She died this year. From cancer. Not TSS. And she was not a teen mom. She had my mother at 19. But she had married by then so... She was 56. When her period stopped. So she was 57 when she died... But anyays!) used tampons until she got TSS. She did not die from it because she was treated properly, but I would reccomend only using tampons for: Swimming and gymnastics. Both are tight and normally cut off at the legs. but when your practices are done, replace them with a pad. And do NOT sleep in them. I take ballet and use a pad and nobody knows. Just be careful, but I know you will. @Shelliee-TSS does not run in your family, don't worry. Just be careful when you use one. Becuase when one person gets sick, it affects the whole family. But don't get scared, because only careless girls and women get it, and I know you are not careless.
