Things To Do Before 30

There are huge sections in the bookstore devoted to giving advice about how best to live your life, no matter what stage you're in. At this juncture, after high school and before your work life begins in earnest, your list of "things to do before 30" can be more fanciful, more fun than they might be later on. Here are our suggestions for things to do before 30!

  1. Learn to drive a stick shift. Aside from the fact that you'll save money at the gas pump every time you drive a stick shift, it's one of those God-forbid skills you should have in your arsenal and in your "things to do before 30" list.
  2. Make an effort to carve out some private time with your grandparents. There's definitely something to that expression with age comes wisdom. Plus asking questions"What did you do after school? What was the proudest you've ever been of my mother? What was it like the night you met grandma?"could supply you with some lifetime memories.
  3. Conquer a fear. Milk a cow, ride a roller coaster, ride a horse, say no to a person you normally wouldn't have the courage to turn down and cross off your list of things to do before 30.
  4. Travel by car to a place you've never been. This is the time in your life where it's possible. Nothing is more fun than a road trip, complete with singing, exploring and bonding with friends.
  5. Travel by plane and leave the country. Nothing expands your universe more fully than wandering far from home. That's how you learn there's no place like it!
  6. Appreciate your good health. Love how you look, flaws and all. You will appear so much more attractive if you believe you are.
  7. Make a goal on your list of things to do before 30 to deposit a large sum of money in your bank account within a yearand do it. The rewards of accomplishing your objective, coupled with the rewards of seeing that sum in the bank, are worth the hard work.
  8. Take a chance. Buy a lottery ticket. Visit a fortune teller. It's kind of silly, but it's fun to dream about fortune without having to earn it!
  9. Take responsibility for yourself. Things to do before 30: do your own laundry, pay your own bills. Now's the time to take the first baby steps toward complete independence.
  10. Do something out of character. Try working at a carnival for the summer! Real life will assert itself soon enough.
  11. Have the courage to be vulnerable. Forgive the insensitive, the hurtful, the selfish. Bad feelings evaporate when you let go of them.
  12. Do something for the first time. Learn to knit. Play a musical instrument. Discover a new language. Put this on your list of things to do before 30 and learn that you can create beauty, then share what you've mastered.

Car trips are so boring. All you do is sit there and complain that your hungry and bored, and later you just sit there. No bonding for me.
