Are Tampons Safe?

Hi BeingGirl Experts,

I'm afraid to use tampons because I heard that when you pull a tampon out, some of the fibers stay in your vagina. Is this true???

Curious

---

Dear Curious,

Fibers may come off any tampon you use. This is not a problem because the natural cleansing process of the vagina (your daily vaginal discharge) removes these fibers within a short time; usually a day or two. Even though fibers can come off, this does not create a health risk.

Hope this is helpful,

Your BeingGirl Experts

I hate tampons. I'll MAYBE use them when I go swimming but I usually don't.
