I am afraid that if I use a tampon I will no longer be a virgin. Is there any way I can use a tampon and still be a virgin and not have it hurt a lot?

Dear Olivia,

Yes, you can definitely use a tampon, still be a virgin, and not experience pain. A virgin is someone who has not had sexual intercourse and it is not related to tampon use. Your hymen (cherry is the slang for this term), the thin membrane that partially covers and protects the opening to your vagina may be torn or stretched when you were a small child by bike riding, sliding down the banister, gymnastics etc. If it is still intact now, you can break or stretch the hymen (because it is too small or too tight) to allow the tampon in.You can try using a bit of water-soluble gel, like KY Jelly, on the top if the applicator. Don’t worry you won’t be hurting yourself. The opening is flexible. Also, understand the more you practice, the more you will stretch the hymen. If you cannot stretch it yourself, you might want to see your doctor/health care provider.

My mom doesn't care if my Hymen breaks. My dad is Arab, and in his country, they think that your not a virgin if you pop you Hymen. But I know it's not true. My dad first knew that I was getting ready because my period was coming soon, is that one night, I gave my mom some period stuff because she was out of her stuff, and she put it on the dining room chair where my dad never sits, and it was pushed in. So one day, my dad pulls out the chair and says, "What is this!? My daughter is not going to use tampons! She won't be a virgin! Peace of S*** wife! You don't know anything!" Yeah. )-,:
