How To Choose Tampon Sizes

Dear BeingGirl Experts,

I'm not comfortable wearing a pad. I would prefer to wear tampons, but I don't understand the sizing of them. Help me,please.

Thank you,

Dear Ansley,

Tampons are really not "sizes" but based on absorbencies. You need to use the lowest absorbency necessary for your flow. This can mean experimenting with different absorbencies when you have your period. The tampon you use should be saturated in 48 hours so it is easily removed. We recommend starting with a Tampax Lite (lowest absorbency) or Tampax Regular, and see what your individual flow needs. If you find your tampon fully saturated before 4 hours, you should be using the next absorbent size. If you remove the tampon at 8 hours and still see white fiber on the tampon, your tampon is too absorbent so drop down one absorbency for the next time. You may need different absorbencies on different days of your period.

Good luck

I tried a tampon and it may take a while before you get it right. It kinda hurts pulling it out but its ok.

I have not started my period yet but I think that it will be cool but my mom say's I'm fortunate it has not started yet. Plus I want to use tampons when I get it so I was wondering if it would hurt too so this was very helpful.
