Can A Tampon Hurt?

Dear BeingGirl Experts,

This really isn't a question but more of advice to all the girls out there who want to use a tampon but think it will hurt. Okay, all you have to do is relax. It's easier to insert then. And it's easier to get in by squatting. It might feel weird your first time. But believe me it's a lot better than a pad. You might feel a little numb because if you're like me, you'll be in shock that you got it in. If you can't get it in one day because you're too nervous, then stop and try the next day. It took me two days to actually get it in. Just don't give up hope.

Niki

Dear Niki,

Thank you for writing such an encouraging letter for other girls. It's really special that you shared your experience with so many other teens. Remember to change your tampon every 48 hours, and use the lowest absorbency necessary for your flow.

Good luck,

Your BeingGirl Experts

So I got my period and i couldn't get a Tampon in. That was the worst summer I ever had because I was so worried and every night I would hope and pray that i could get it in by the time we had our swimming unit in gym class next school year. And before I knew it, it was September and I still couldn't get a tampon in. I only had 2 months before swimming season to try to stick it up there and I was so worried. A couple weeks later I told my mom and she said to make sure I was putting it in the right place so i put some vaseline on the tampon, tried in a different spot and it went in! i had been trying to stick it up my urethra! (where pee comes out). So the lesson of all this is to make sure you are putting it in the right spot, don't give up and don't be a dingbat like me!

@doglovinggirl#3- I do not recommend you practice inserting a tampon when you are not menstruating. It is easiest to insert a tampon when you are flowing heavily. If you are going to do this, then make sure you put a little bit of water soluble lubricating gel (Vassaline) on the tip of the applicator to ease insertion. Remove the tampon right after you insert it.

I have a question. Lately, when I put tampons in for my period, they feel out of place, or their hard to put in. I've put them in without problem before, what changed? Thanks! :)
