Tampon Applicator: Which Is Easiest?

Dear BeingGirl Experts,

I was reading about how you put in a tampon, and it said you needed to twist the cardboard. Does that hurt? Is it easier to use a cardboard or plastic applicator?

Dear Meghan,

Twisting the cardboard does not hurt. Some girls think inserting a plastic tampon applicator is easier and comfortable. Lots of girls find Tampax Pear Lites to be the perfect first-time tampon. You can check it out at

Tampax Flushable Cardboard tampons, which have smooth cardboard applicators, are biodegradable, flushable, and as easy to insert as a plastic tampon applicator during your period. Tampons should only be inserted when you have your period, which makes them easier to insert because of the lubrication from your menstrual flow. Check out tampon insertion at

It can take some practice to learn to insert a tampon easily, as any new learning experience requires. It is a good idea to wait to use tampons until you have a regular period and understand your flow.

Good luck!

Personally, plastic is the only way to go for me! My mom sometimes uses cardboard ones but i tried it and it was kinda uncomfortable. I use Tampax Pearl or U by Kotex (: I like the fact that the Kotex ones can fit in your pocket easily and discretely, but both brands are fantastic!

inserting a tampon is scary and my first time i was shaking dont let it get to you. Just relax and get in a comfterable position and use a hang mirror to see if u cant find the area to insert the tampon. if u feel discomort take out!!
