How Can I Talk To My Mom About Personal Issues?

Dear BeingGirl Experts,

I need to talk to my mom about puberty and stuff, but I don't know how to start! I want to get some pads just to be safe, but I'm afraid. If I ask her she'll freak out! Please help!

Dear Emeline,

Why not let mom know that you need to talk with her? Ask her to set aside some private time for the two of you. If you cannot ask to do this face-to-face, why not leave her a note or send her an email? It is really important to set up some kind of way to communicate with your mom. Maybe this is what your first "girl chat" should be about! Then you can move onto more personal topics once you have a comfortable way to communicate all set up.

Wat i do is i write a note,give it to her,run away,and scream into my pillow 4 awile.then ill just deal with smiling uncontrolably wile feeling extremely weird and embarassed. LOL

Go the "KISS" way. Keep It Simple, Sweetie. Just privately tell your mom you got your period and need supplies. She'll probably be glad you're normal and have good sense. If you really can't talk to her, tell the school nurse, or a teacher you trust. They can help, seriously.
