How To Tell Mom I Am Ready For The Sex Talk

Dear BeingGirl Experts,

I have a lot of questions about sex. When I talk to my mom about it, the questions that I really want to know about I'm too embarrassed to ask. I once tried asking my mom about birth control and she blew up. How can I talk to my mom when I'm so embarrassed?

Barbara

Dear Barbara,

You have expressed yourself very well in your letter. Why don’t you write your mom a note? Explain to your mom you have a lot of curiosity and want to talk with her about some sensitive topics, but you feel embarrassed. Ask her to make a special time with you. You might even suggest going out to lunch or even taking a walk around your neighborhood or at a local park. Chances are you will find you will both feel more comfortable when you set time aside for this type of conversation. You might even use this first time together for ideas on how you can communicate about sensitive topics. Once you are both comfortable “chatting” you can move onto more personal topics.

Hope this is helpful,

Your BeingGirl Experts

@girlonfire8693 it's...THE TALK....the talk, you know, the whole thing when your parent explains puberty

The reason your mom blew up is because you started asking about birth control and she probably automatically thought you wanted to started having sex, which is what a lot of us do. But if you think she is mad or you are embarrassed just go online and look for the answers because you will find whatever you are looking for. And this website is good for information to.

My dad gave me the talk. It wasn't awkward at all. I asked questions and he answered them, he explained he wasn't embarrassed talking about this to me, he said it was a part of reproduction and everyone knows about it eventually.

Im still kind of waiting on the whole sex talk even though I already did Sex Ed. My mom and I never really had "The Big Talk". To be honest, I think she actually tries to avoid the topic. :/

I've had like 'The Sex Talk: Part 1'. LOL. Mom will probably give me an other part in two years or so. :) "It" would be SO awkward if my dad tried to have one of these with me!! Luckily, he never mentions it and never will. :) I do know more than I am probably supposed to, and during that talk I pretty much didn't say anything. I really don't have any questions about sex. I know enough to say that I really DON'T want to have kids!!

CrazyAwesome2: Wow. I really can't imagine why your mom wouldn't let you use tampons! I've never used them but I will in about... 20 days! :) Is it weird to be kinda excited for your next period? :/ - A Happy Hufflepuff
