Dear BeingGirl Experts,

I'm shy and sometimes and for some strange reason, when I'm doing a presentation in class, my mouth and lips dry up, and I can't speak like I normally do. I've always had this problem. Just the feeling of everybody staring at me, ONLY me! And I can't stand the fact that I'll be taking speech soon, because it's mandatory. It's nerve-racking! The only concern I have is that my mouth dries up. Is there anyway of controlling it?

Dear Jules,

You may find it interesting the most-feared activity for adults is speaking in front of a group. You aren’t alone with your fear. Remember everyone is with you and wants you to do well. You can help the dry mouth by drinking a glass of water (you'll see professional speakers doing this) or having a piece of hard candy. You will find yourself more at ease if don’t wait until the last minute to prepare for presentations. Practice in front of the mirror until you are comfortable then ask your parents to be your audience. With practice you will be more at ease when you get in front of your speech classmates.

Hope this helps,

I remember at the end of 5th grade I had to do a speech in front of all of the whole school! It was when we got awards and certificates and stuff. I didn't even know what to say.
