Remove Tampon

Dear BeingGirl Experts,

I am 13 and I have had my period for about four months, and am a pad user. I have tried to use tampons on two occasions and have no problem when it comes to insertion, but can't get them out! What's wrong w/me? All my other friends use them, and I can't get them out! Please give me some tips. Thanks a lot!

Dear Ruthie,

If you are having problems removing your tampon, make sure you use the lowest absorbency tampon for your flow, leave the tampon in from 48 hours and be sure you pull the tampon out at the same angle that you used to insert it. Also, if you tug on the string and the tampon doesn't start to pull out, you may need to leave it in a little longer, but not longer than 8 hours.

Check yourself each time you use the restroom. Here's a tip my mom told me. "Gently tug on the string, if the tampon resists let it in. If the tampon is loose, then it's time to remove it." When using a public restroom try to use the handicapped stall, if available. This stall usually gives you more room to change your tampon or your pad.
