PMS Food: Are They Related?

Dear BeingGirl Experts,

How can we treat PMS with diet?

Maria

---

Dear Maria,

Eating a well-balanced diet is particularly important during your period, as the food you eat around your period can have an impact on PMS. Fatty foods and refined sugar can contribute to PMS especially if you're overweight. Sugar causes rapid swings in blood sugar levels, triggering mood swings. Avoiding candy and sweets makes a big difference in how you feel. Caffeine can worsen the symptoms. Cutting back on it should help relieve breast tenderness. Salt can affect water retention levels and make bloating worse.

Eat more fruits, vegetables, cereals, and whole grains. Also, try to drink 68 glasses of water every day. In addition to feeling better, eating well will also improve your overall health.

Remember to always make healthy food choices!
