I'm an avid hiker, and I am wondering how dangerous it will be to hike in bear country during my period. Of course I always use Tampax, but despite its biodegradablity, I must pack out what I pack in.

I'm probably not the best person to ask about this. Maybe you can find a Park Ranger to ask. I'm sure s/he's been asked before. But I would definitely not keep the used tampons or pads anywhere near my tent or belongings. Even if you have to carry out the used product, I'd bury it in a plastic bag, far away from the camp, and then take it all out with me at the end of the camping excursion.
