Period Symptoms

What's a problem? What's normal?

According to textbooks, your period should come every 28 days or so, and the menstrual fluid you lose is on average 69 tablespoons. The trouble is, your body can't read textbooks, and it may do something very different.

Some women have:

  • Periods that don't come regularly (in fact, very few have a consistent 28-day cycle)
  • Heavy periodsa very heavy flow of blood each month
  • Painful periods
  • An absence of periods (called amenorrhea)

A few women have a combination of menstrual problems. Sometimes these things are normal; sometimes it means something is wrong. So, if your periods aren't regular, or are too heavy or painful—or if your period stops coming—you should talk to a doctor.

sharks softball - what they mean by "painfull" is cramps. I don't have my period, but I have talked to people who do and the blood only feels wet no pain unless there is a medical issue - prettygirl2345 you shouldnt be jealous 1. periods ARE NOT FUN (some girls get cramps, pads can be hard to get used to, you may start without knowing and blood go THROUGH your clothes etc.) and 2. its something that happens on your bodys own time, not your friends.

@prettygirl12345 that is nothing to be jealous about some girls don't get their period until they're 17. Don't rush yourself it's nothing to be ashamed/embarrassed/jealous about it's completely normal I haven't had my period yet either so don't worry it WILL come!

@txtrgirl22222: I got my first period on Sunday, the 11th and I totally agree with you. I had the worst cramp last Friday. Luckily I'm done with mine now.
