Period Stops

Dear BeingGirl Experts,

I don't bleed during the night when I have my period. I was wondering if that is the reason why it has been prolonged by quite a few days.

Eden

Dear Eden,

Menstrual (period) blood drips out of your uterus. Gravity and some uterine contractions help push/pull it out of your body. When you are lying down, the gravity and the contractions are not able to push the blood out, and it stays in your vagina. This doesn't prolong your menstrual period. When you stand up first thing in the morning, you will begin to flow again. It's normal for a period to last 37 days. If your period is lasting longer than seven days, you need to discuss this with your healthcare provider. Talk to mom about making you an appointment.

Good luck,

Your BeingGirl Experts
