Period Odor: How To Tell Your Friend She Smells
Hi, BeingGirl Experts, How do you tell your friend that she smells like period often without hurting her feelings? Hallie --- Dear Hallie, You sound like a caring friend. Why don’t you bring the topic up when the two of you are together and you aren’t worried about being overheard? Let your friend know you have become a V.I.P. member of BeingGirl.com and learned so much about periods and other girl things. You can then share that you have learned showering or bathing should be done everyday and especially when you are on your period to help you smell fresh. Explain menstrual flow doesn’t smell until it leaves your body. When it meets with air, it does have a unique odor so showering or bathing daily helps. Also, explain that if you wear pads you need to make sure you change them every 4 –6 hours or more often if needed to avoid having an odor. If you wear tampons, remove them every 4 – 8 hours and place the used applicator or tampon into the wrapper and dispose into a trash can. The tampon collects the menstrual fluid in the vagina, and is not exposed to air; therefore, little or no odor results.
By presenting the information this way your friend may not even realize you are trying to teach her the importance of bathing or showering daily! Good luck, Your BeingGirl Experts
