What is a Pap Smear test?
The Pap Smear test is a screening test for cancer of the cervix and may also show evidence of vaginal infections such as yeast, Trichomonas, or viral infection. If your Pap Smear test shows inflammation, other tests may be used to diagnose the condition.

What's a gynecologist?
A gynecologist (guy-nuh-COLL-uh-jist) is a doctor who specializes in women's reproductive health. A gynecologist performs pelvic (also called gynecology) exams.

What is a speculum?
A speculum is an instrument that's inserted into the vagina and gently opens so that a doctor can check the vaginal lining and cervix, and take specimens for further tests.

What is a pelvic exam?
A pelvic exam, which also might be called a gynecology exam, is when a doctor (like a gynecologist) examines a girl/woman's external and some internal genital area and reproductive organs. The doctor uses a speculum for parts of the internal exam.

If you are not having problems you dont have to get a gyno until you are 18. Thank Goodness!!

That sounds scary. I would feel very self-consious while some person was looking at me "down there" I'm 14... so does that mean my gyno appnt is coming up? O.O
