Dear BeingGirl Experts,

What's best for me to be using, pads or tampons?

Elle

---

Dear Elle,

This is definitely a personal decision. The Always Ultra thin pads and Always Infinity pads [link to beinggirl > products > always > always ultra thin page] are so discrete and comfortable, you may want to try them. Tampax [link to BeingGirl Tampax page] tampons give you the freedom and discretion to do whatever you'd like while you are menstruating, including swimming. So you need to analyze your lifestyle and come up with the type of product that will be best for you. You may decide on different products for different days of your period. For more information on menstrual protection, go here [link to ART559].

Good luck,

When I got my period it was a day before my 10 mile race. I was nerveos to tell my mom I needed tampons. She understood and got me the playtex sport lites. I was really excited to try them out. I had no problem getting it in. I ended up using one that day just to get used to it. When I woke up that morning at 5 I got dressed and put in a tampon. I was wearing neon spandex and a pink sports tank top. When I was running and I leaked. I was panicking. When I got to the next aid station I went to the bathroom. When I looked at my spandex the had a spot on them because I had not put the tampon all the way in. I spent 1min. trying to get it out. I finnaly did. I got a new tampon out of my phanny pack (small runing pack) I came out and realized I had spent 5 min. I started running again hoping no one could see the small spot on my spandex. I finished the rest of the race and when I hot home I went back to a pad. But now all I use is tampons. Hope you guys liked my story!!

Yesterday my grandma was giving me this big lecture about tampons saying "Young Girls should never use Tampons. Its sinful, you should only use them after you're married or have had sex." she was really getting on my nerves because I just feel like tampons are much more comfortable and less annoying. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with tampons especially when you are very active. They aren't visible, and if you know your flow, (which you will Eventually,) you don't have to worry about people seeing that you're on your period. Also you can wear any type of underwear you like! My parents don't like me using tampons either and its really upsetting because I have to change in gym or during softball and all the other girls wear tampons. My parents only buy them in the summer and my mom keeps them in her room so she knows when I use one. is there a way that I could get them from being girl with out having to pay for them?

When I get my period I think I will have to use tampons because I train and do sports in summer and then it's back to swim team in the fall-spring. So I'm pretty sure I will have to use them my first period. I'm scared is that bad?

Hey everyone! Tampons! Being scared about using tampons is fine! They have so many different types, different flows, different applicator and non-applicator tampons. I tried getting my tampon in the first time in February 2 years ago, I tried SO many times that month. But it wasn't working. I then tried again in September of that same year. I told myself I HAD to do it. For sports and every other reason. I knew I needed to. And I got it in after a few tries. What was different the 2nd time was -I wasn't as scared, there was nothing to lose. -I opened a tampon, took it out of the applicator just to look at the applicator and the tampon, it helped comfort me. Now every time I try a new brand, I need to do that and I save it. -I wasn't nervous. I watched a few videos on beinggirl and lil-lets. The actual applying part.... I wasn't angling it towards the back of my body. It's the BIGGEST tip that helped me! :)

I use both. I feel more secure with a tampon in at school. The reason being that I am always worried that some will seep through and show on my jeans. Yet, I prefer pads on the weekends. Also, I use tampons because I am a swimmer and can't use pads.

Tampons are best. Its weird the first few times but after a while, you wouldn't want to wear pads. And they are more comfortable and less wet
