I am 17 years old, and I didn't have my period for about one year. Then, I had it and it lasted about three days. Now it is almost three months late. Is this something I should be concerned about? I started my period when I was about to enter the sixth grade, and I had no unusual problems until now. If I should be concerned about it, how should I tell my mom? We've never really talked about personal things like this before.

Mom needs to know about your menstrual irregularity. Face-to-face conversations are best. So ask mom for a good time for you two to have a few minutes of alone time so you can talk to her about missing periods. Chances are this will be a much easier conversation than you think. Ask mom to make you an appointment with a gynecologist/healthcare provider for a diagnosis and treatment. This is about your health and isn’t anything to be embarrassed about.
