Lost Tampon?

Dear BeingGirl Experts,

I think I might have left a tampon inside of me from my last period. What should I do? Is it possible that it has gotten too far up that it is lost somewhere up there? Please write back ASAP.

Autumn

---

Dear Autumn,

No, a tampon can’t get lost or stuck in the vagina. If you think you accidentally left a tampon in too long, you might experience localized inflammation, causing a discolored vaginal discharge and a foul odor. You can remove the tampon if you squat down and insert your fingers into your vagina. Sweep your fingers back and forth and try to feel for the cord or the tampon. Once you feel the tampon or the cord, grasp it and pull it out. If you cannot find the tampon, you will have to see your doctor/healthcare provider. It is important that you get the tampon out as soon as you can.

Remember, no tampon should be left in your vagina for more than 8 hours.

Hope this is helpful,
