Irregular Menstruation

Dear BeingGirl Experts,

I just got my first period, and I've heard it can be irregular the first year. Is there any way to prevent being "surprised" at school?

Taylor

Dear Taylor,

Be prepared! Wearing pantiliners daily can help you stay prepared when you have irregular periods. When you start somewhere away from home, you won't be embarrassed because the pantiliner absorbs enough of the start of a period until you are able to get a pad or tampon. We recommend keeping menstrual protection in your backpack and/or purse so you have it available if you do start away from home.

Good luck,
