Hi BeingGirl Experts,

My question is: Whenever I am on my period on the first day it's light and for the rest of the time it's very heavy. Is there something wrong with me? I also have another question. I use pads whenever I am on my period, but the blood always ends up going through it, and I am scared to use a tampon. Should I use one? What are your suggestions?

Dear Trinity,

The characteristics of your period you have described are not unusual when it comes to menstrual periods. Your period sounds normal. Changing your pad more often and/or using a higher-absorbency pad will help eliminate having the flow go through it so fast.

Have you tried the Always Infinity pad? Despite their thin appearance, they provide great protection throughout your period. The Always Infinity is different from other pads and the women and girls who use the Infinity say the pad is wonderful. The Infinity allows women the ability to move easily because of the pad’s flexibility and it absorbs great. The Infinity pad is also very thin and lots of teens prefer this. Pads should be changed every 4–6 hours. Deciding to use tampons is a personal choice. Before trying them gather information to better understand how tampons work and how to use them. Your mother and friends who use tampons will probably be more than happy to tell you what they like about tampons and share some tips about using them. Remember the choice is yours when it comes to menstrual protection. There is a lot of information on pads and tampons for you on BeingGirl.

Hope this is helpful,

Your BeingGirl Experts

CAN SOMEONE ANSWER ME? Ok well first of all I started my period maybe 1 or 2 years ago and I have not had at all for that long. Idk what's wrong with me. Sometimes when I wipe there is blood so I put on a pad but the pad always has nothing on it! I just really want some kind of answer. I am not pregnant ( I'm almost 14 ) I want to go to a doctor but I am nervous at someone looking at my body, PLEASE ANSWER ME IF U KNOW WHATS WRONG WITH ME! :-)

To DValue and Pink_JT! There's nothing to be worried about. Usually for the first two years your periods will be irregular. That means they could come at any given time. For example, they could come three months in a row, then skip three months in a row. Perhaps they could come every other month. Every girl is different. Just check yourself each time you use the restroom. Carry supplies with you and in your locker such as pads, pantiliners, tampons (when you are ready for them), wipes, Midol, Aleve, Motrin, etc. (for cramps), quarters for the machines, an extra pair of panties, etc. If you forget your supplies you can ask your friends, any female teacher, the school nurse or the school office. Try to use the handicap stall, if available. This stall usually gives you more room to change your supplies and your clothes, if the need arise. Don't let anyone rush you, even if there's a waiting line for the stalls. If you have any more questions, just ask.

Is it normal that my first period was on January 7, 2014 and my second was on April 4, 2014? I didn't have my period for about 3 months. Also, I felt the symptoms as if I was having my period bit nothing happened.

@isa_guzi_dancer<3(: Unfortunately, your flow will not be light forever. The longer you have your period for the heavier your flow will get. You will also notice blood clots which are clumps of blood. Hope this helped! Anymore Q's please ask I love to help!
