Dear BeingGirl Experts,

When I tried to insert a tampon, it started to hurt. So I tried to take it out, but when I did I started to feel dizzy. Is there something wrong with me?

Leah

---

Dear Leah,

Some teens and women have this kind of reaction when using tampons. It is caused by the stimulation of a nerve (the vagus nerve) during tampon insertion. Try inserting tampons while you are lying down. This should help you overcome the dizziness. (Understand this may not happen again, so you won’t have to insert your tampon while you are lying down all the time.) Have you discussed this with your mom? She may have had a similar problem when she first tried tampons.

Hope this is helpful,

Your BeingGirl Experts
