How to Use a Pad

Pads and pantiliners are simple and easy to use. Follow the steps below to learn how to place them properly.

1. Remove the Wrapper

With cleanly washed hands, remove the pad or pantiliner from the wrapper. Save the wrapper — you will need this for disposing the used pad later.

2. Remove the Backing

The backing of your pad will typically be a long piece of paper that covers the sticky back of the pad. Sometimes the wrapper doubles as the backing.

3. Place the Pad

Center the sticky side of the pad in the lower part of your panties — the area that goes between your legs. Be sure not to put it too far to the back or front. If your pad or pantiliner has wings, remove the backing (if necessary) and wrap them around the underside of your panties.

4. Dispose of the Pad

After your pad has become saturated, pull it off your panties and roll it up like a sleeping bag in the wrapper from your fresh pad. Then toss it in the trash. Never flush a pad or pantiliner down the toilet.

Always start by washing your hands. If the pad or pantiliner you’re using is in a wrapper, remove it and save it for disposing the used pad later.
Now, remove the backing of the pad (sometimes the wrapper doubles as the backing).
Center the sticky side of the pad in the bottom panel of your panties (the area that goes between your legs). Be sure not to put it too far to the back or front. If your pad or pantiliner has wings, remove the backing (if necessary) and wrap them around the underside of your panties.
To dispose of a used pad or pantiliner, pull it off your panties and roll it up like a sleeping bag in tissue or the wrapper from a fresh pad. Then toss it in the trash. But remember, never flush a pad or pantiliner down the toilet.

Tampons hurt me, so I decided to use them when I'm swimming.

I use always infinity pads but I wanted to try tampons, everyone says its easy but it hurts like crazy if it hasn't absorbed enough yet so I'm not so sure if I wanna try it

I've been getting my period for just over a year now. I am lucky that I very rarely get any symptoms, and when I do, they're not all that bad. I just wanted to say, it's only a week, and when it's over, you feel great!

@ellamonahan1 I have another question if you can help please do! So I'm going to NH for a few days (I think 6) and I don't know what/how many liners/pads/tampons I should bring. So basically what products for beginners do you recommend and how many? I have Always Ultra Thin Slender pads, Always Radiant liners and Always Thin liners. I didn't get tampons yet because I realized that we weren't going swimming (we weren't allowed to). Should I ask for Tampax Pearl Lites? I'm also going to an amusement/water park for my dad's b-day. Please help, thank you!

I really prefer using tampons, but when I do use pads, I use the always infinity. They are amazing! They are super thin, but still really absorbent. They are the best pads ever!

@PLH36 i should have pads at your mom and dads house. if u r going camping you should change your pad every four hours cause it might get a little gross up in there if you know what i mean. you should change them right when u wake up and right when you go to sleep. you shound bring about sixteen or seventeen pads and your flow shouldnt change randomly if your beginning, but you should just bring heavy flow and you cant swim with a pad you have to wear a tampon to go in water but make sure to ok it with your mom. and just dont stick on a pad for too long.

@ellamonahan1 Thank you SO much I checked at the last second to see if anyone would reply and thank the lord you wrote one. I'll probably just have to suck it up and use a tampon but whatever works you know. And thank you for the extra advice. But once again thank you SO much!
