Treating period stains is best done as soon as you find out you had a leak. (The fresher any stain is the easier it to successfully remove.) Make sure your garment or item stained is washable. Soaking the stain in cold water may do the trick before washing.

If not, we have a couple of other techniques you can try. Hydrogen peroxide mixed with cold water will also remove period stains. Mix ¼ cup of hydrogen peroxide with ¾ cup water. You can pour this on the stain or you can soak the stained area in the solution before washing.

Another option is to mix one tablespoon of meat tenderizer with two tablespoons of cold water. Mix this together to make a paste. Spread the paste on the stain allowing it to sit for 1–2 hours before washing. With either stain removal technique you use once the stain is loosened, you can wash them using your regular detergent.
