How Do I Know If I'm Depressed?

  • ViewsIcon 14332

Dear BeingGirl Experts,

Sometimes I'm upset a lot. I don't always know why. Could I be depressed? I have talked to my mom about it, and she says that if I want, I can talk to someone we know who is a professional. Can you please give me more information on depression? I would like to get reasons why teens get it and what they can do to stop it. Thanks a lot!

Debra

Dear Debra,

Many teens struggle with depression. You are at a time in your life where you are experiencing many changes, stress, and fluctuating hormone levels. Your mom sounds supportive. With an approachable mom and her offering to help you get help if you feel you need it should mean a lot to you. Discussing topics about your well-being is a wise choice with a trusted adult like mom.

BeingGirl.com has some great articles on depression. Do a search on the site to learn more.

I can’t tell you if you are depressed. You need a trained professional to help with this type of diagnosis. Also, mom has a great idea about talking to a professional who is trained to listen and help you work through whatever is going on to make you feel like you described.

If you find it difficult to talk to mom or to the counselor/doctor try writing down what you want them to know first. This can be helpful.

Take care of yourself,
