Dear BeingGirl Experts,

I was wondering. I do have my period, but what if I get it in school and people can see it?

Sara

Dear Sara,

If you are close to getting your period, it is a good idea to use pantiliners to protect your clothing. Not only will pantiliners protect your panties from discharge staining them, they will be there to provide protection when you do start your period. Most periods begin with a little staining, not a full drip. If you see some staining when you are at school, then use a pad or tampon you have in your backpack or locker, or see the nurse at your school.

We recommend keeping a calendar so you will be able to predict when your next period will come. During the first few years of having periods you may find they are irregular. This isn’t uncommon. Your calendar will be easier to keep up with once your period becomes predictable. You can find a calendar on BeingGirl.com to chart your unique cycle.

Hope this is helpful,

Your BeingGirl Experts

To DValue! Usually when you first start, it won't be that heavy. You can use some toilet tissue. That should help you till you get home. You can ask your friends, any female teacher will help you, the school nurse and the school office have some supplies. Most restrooms and the locker room will have a machine. Just start carrying some quarters with you. Make yourself a emergency kit that has pads, pantiliners, tampons (when you are ready for them), Midol, Aleve, Motrin, etc. (for cramps), wipes, quarters for the machines, an extra pair of panties, etc. Keep some supplies in your locker (if you have one). Just check yourself each time you use the restroom. Use the handicap stall, if available. This stall usually gives you more room to change your supplies and your clothes, if the need arises. If you have any more questions, just ask.

We have a teacher in our grade, and she actually keeps things like pads and tampons, ect. for students how are unprepaired for their period or if someone is having there first one. She also will answer any questions you'd have, and has told what to do if we have a heavy flow in class xD She is a very helpfull teacher!!

I wear pantyliners everyday anyway so I don't need to worry about it, although my periods are oddly irregular considering I've only had a few periods.
