A victim of sexual assault is a victim of violence. Abusers choose their victims without regard to physical appearance. Infants as young as two months, and women as old as 96 have been raped. Victims come from all racial, religious and socioeconomic groups.

Though provocation may consist of only a "gesture", according to the federal commission of Crimes of Violence, only 4% of reported sexual assaults involved provocative behavior on the part of the victim, and most of the "provocation" consisted of nothing more than walking and dressing in a way that is socially defined as attractive. No woman's behavior or dress gives a man the right to rape her.
