Dear BeingGirl Experts,

How old do I have to be to use tampons? I am now 13 years old. Please write back ASAP. By the way, my mother said that I can't use a tampon until I'm older. Please tell me she's wrong, cause it really stinks to not be able to go swimming.

I am not going to tell you your mother is wrong! Some girls start using tampons with their first menstrual cycle because they are athletes, dancers, or swimmers and feel comfortable enough to use them. Some girls wait until their cycles become regular before they start using tampons. Ask mom what it is she objects to and work on understanding this from her perspective.
