Dear BeingGirl Experts,

I'm 14, and don't have my period yet. That's not the problem. I was wondering, when you have your periodhow do you shower or take a bath? I know it's silly. But if you didn't have a tampon in, wouldn't the blood go in bath water or run down your leg in the shower? I know it's a stupid question. But I don't have a mom or older sister to ask, so I hope you can help me. Thanks for your time, and sorry the question is so stupid.

Crystal

---

Dear Crystal,

The only stupid question is the one not asked!

Continuing to shower or bathe regularly (daily) when you are menstruating is an important health habit. In the shower, any discharge will go down the drain with the running water. This is not a problem. Taking a bath may be something you want to avoid unless you are using a tampon. Although being in the water will help to keep some of the blood in your vagina (it's a pressure issue), you may still tend to release menstrual fluid in the bath water and be distressed by it. So bottom line: shower daily, bathe with a tampon.

Good luck,

Your BeingGirl Experts

anicole70, since you can't really take a warm bath during your period to calm cramps, another ways to calm is my putting a hot water bottle or an electric blanket over your abdomen. Hope this helps!

HeyYou, it's totally normal. What that is called is clots. And not the kind of clots you can die from. It's just part of your period which I think most girls get (well at least I do...sorry tmi) anyways don't worry it's perfectly normal.

If you don't use tampons and your worried about taking a shower due to blood going down your leg, don't worry. It will not run down your leg. I know it sounds crazy but when you go in the water your period tends to stop, maybe not all the way but most of the way. However when you go swimming that's different, you do wanna use a tampon because you would be around other people and just to be safe you will wanna wear one. Hope I was helpful:P

So what if you bleed in the shower? I'd rather be clean than dirty!
