Dear BeingGirl Experts, I am 14 years old, and I have been using pads since I started my period. This year, since I am in the eigth grade, our class is going to Washington, D.C., and I'm afraid my period will start then. I decided I want to use tampons during that time. I know how to put them in, but I am so scared if it will hurt or not. If you or someone you know uses tampons, was it uncomfortable the first time you put it in? To me, it looks uncomfortable. Thanks!! Juliana --- Dear Juliana, When inserted correctly, tampons do not hurt. Using tampons for the first time is an individual experience. You are learning a new technique when learning to insert your first tampon. Most of us are uncomfortable when we are learning something new, but then we get more confident and comfortable (like learning to ride a bike or using a skateboard). Talk to your mom and your friends who use tampons. Ask them for some insertion tips. Chances are they will tell you a correctly inserted tampon is really not felt. You should practice tampon insertion only when you have your period, and when your period is rather heavy. Every box of tampons has insertion instructions, or you can find instructions and videos on BeingGirl.com Have a great time on your trip! Your BeingGirl Experts
