Dear BeingGirl Experts, I know that you're not supposed to leave a tampon in for more than eight hours...but what if you have one in for let's say five hours...then change it...can you only wear the new one for three hours or...because it is a new tampon does that mean you can have it in for another eight hours...please help!!!!

Dear Talia,

You can wear each tampon for a maximum of eight hours. This means you can insert one tampon at 8:00 a.m., and then change before 4:00 p.m., and again before midnight. However, you can change at any time if the tampon has become saturated. You can use a tampon overnight, if you sleep less than eight hours. If you sleep longer than eight hours, you need to use a pad or set an alarm to wake up so you can change the tampon.

Hope this helps,

Your BeingGirl Experts

A tampon can be worn usually 6 to 8 hours unless your flow is heavy or you start to smell an odor. Just check yourself each time you use the restroom. Gently tug on the string, if the tampon resists let it in. If the tampon is loose, then it's time to change it.
