Can I Sleep With a Tampon?

Dear BeingGirl Experts,

I am a new user of tampons. I'm wondering if tampons can be used at night, and if so for how long? I am also confused about absorbencies and how long you can wear tampons during the day. I have read the box, and I see that absorbencies have been measured by grams; can this be done by hours?

Dear Adrianna,

Tampons can be worn from 4–8 hours. You can use a tampon overnight, if you sleep less than 8 hours. If you sleep longer than 8 hours, you need to use a pad, or set an alarm to wake up so you can change the tampon.

You should be using the lowest absorbency for your flow. You can check this by starting with a regular absorbency tampon. If you remove it after 8 hours and there are still white fibers showing, you need to move to a lower absorbency, such as Tampax Lites. If your tampon leaks before the 4–8 hours, move up from the regular to a super absorbency tampon. Tampons can be worn as long as 8 hours. The amount of time, within the 4–8 hours, you specifically can wear a tampon is dependent on your flow and on the absorbency you are using.

Hope this helps,
