Dear BeingGirl Experts,

I'm 13 years old, and I started my period over a year and a half ago. I was wondering if it was normal to have really bad period cramps? I feel like I'm going to die. I don't want to go anywhere. I have them all throughout my 5 to 7 daysis that normal? I don't feel comfortable talking to my mom or my doc, but these cramps really hurt!! I've used pain killers and a heating pad almost everything. I need answers!! Please help!!!

Sincerely,

Christine

Dear Christine,

You should not be having such intense pain every month. There are prescription medications available for females who find other remedies do not work. Please discuss this with your mom. Let her know (I'm sure she is already aware) of how much pain you are in. Ask her to make you an appointment with a gynecologist or other health care provider. S/he may not even do a pelvic examination, but s/he may still prescribe medication to help relieve your pain or recommend an over-the-counter medication containing ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil). Also, you may want to try applying warm compresses to your abdominal area or even exercise when you are having cramps. Some girls finds this can help too..

Take care of yourself by getting the help you need,

Yes! A lot of girls have them! Last year I had them so bad that i fell and my parents thought my appendix burst! I had to go get a CAT scan and everything! They told me it was just my period and to just wait it out. They do get better! Once in a while though it might get bad where you cant get up, but its okay just take pain reliever and you will be good to go! :)

In some cases, it is possible for you to have very severe cramping. I know a friend that has really severe cramps when she has her period and she went to the doctor and they told her it was normal. It just depended on your body type.
