Dear BeingGirl Experts,

Every time I put in a tampon, it's uncomfortable for a minute and then it gets pushed out. What should I do?

Nevaeh

---

Dear Nevaeh,

It sounds like you may not be inserting the tampon high enough in your vagina. If the tampon is too low and touching the vaginal muscles, it will be uncomfortable. If the tampon is touching these muscles or "pushing" itself out, try using your finger to push the tampon up higher. You will probably find starting over with a fresh tampon will work best. Make sure to insert the tampon so that it passes the muscle which could make it uncomfortable. You do this by pushing the bigger tube all the way into the vagina until your fingers touch your body. (Some girls find twisting the applicator back and forth gently helps.) Once you push the inner tube in to the outer or larger tube the string should extend outside the vagina. Don't forget to remove the tubes.

Check this out for the insertion details: http://www.beinggirl.com/article/use-tampon/.

Remember BeingGirl has great videos and articles on tampon insertion. You will know when you have inserted you tampon correctly because it won’t hurt.

Hope this is helpful,

@danseur914: maybe you could try inserting it while you have a hand mirror to see what you're doing. Sorry if that sounds weird, but I don't mean it in like a "creepy" way, you just need to get to know your own body. And remember to just stay calm and relax when you're inserting & removing the tampon. Hope this helped!

my mom assumed i wouldnt want to wear tampons for a really long time because she has never been a fan of them. both of my older sisters use them. but the thing is i kind of do want to use them maybe not now but in the near future. pads are just such a hassle because they are big, uncomfortable, hard to move in, and im conscious about the smell. ive stolen a tampon from my sister and tried to put it in. it all seemed to work fine but i took it right out because i didnt want to use them yet. but when i do want to use them i dont know how to ask my mom. :/

well..when i first used a tampon when i pushed it in it slid back out...so when i wasn't on my period i would just practice with the applicator because it helps ...it is also a bonus because its a great way to masturbate. lol

hey im no tampon expert but wat the nurse told me is to remember "hey i have a tampon in maybe i should replace it or keep track of how long ive had it in" bcuz some wemon actually die (or get really really sick) of vaginal infection from for getting about a tampon they have in. im not tryin to scare u or make u stop using tampons if they help u feel better then use them just dont forget about it :)

I tried tampons, but they hurt and are extremely uncomfortable to put in. I play a lot of sports, and pads just don't work as well when I do. I want to be able to use tampons without the discomfort. Any ideas?

Whenever I put in a tampon part of the end sticks out which means that I always see a little of the tampon sticking out. I try and push it more in put it doesn't work. I use a size regular. What should I do?

A good way to practice before u get your period is to take out the tampon and just use the applicator without the tampon in it
