5 Ways to Celebrate the Winter Holidays

Winter is the perfect time of year to be with the ones you love and create great memories for years to come. With the holidays, school breaks and snow days all around the same time, you will have plenty of time to catch up with friends and family. So here are some ideas to make it an extra special time of year.

1. Light Up Your Holiday
You can always count on lights to brighten up dark winter nights. Walk around the neighborhood with your BFF and see all the cool lights your neighbors put up for the holidays. Or maybe your family can drive around to see the different holiday yard displays. It’s a fun thing to do together and you’ll see many beautiful, creative decorations!

2. Get Out the Games
Is everyone in your house off for the day or are you snowed in? Bring out a few of your favorite board games or a deck of cards. You can play up the games by adding incentives – like playing for treats! You can learn a new card trick or beat your little brother, whatever the case, playing fun games is a great way to spend time indoors with your family.

3. Cook, Bake and Celebrate
Looking for a delicious way to celebrate the season? Try baking cookies with friends and decorating them with yummy toppings like icing, nuts and sprinkles. You might want to ask mom for help here. Your parents might also like to spend time with you by making a family meal together. Want to learn a secret family recipe? Jump right in!

4. Discover Traditions
Does your family have something special they do every winter? If so, don’t miss out on building your family bonds. If you don’t have any traditions, start something! You can plan a movie marathon, go sledding in your neighborhood or enjoy making craft projects with your family. And for your friends, try planning a season-themed slumber party.

5. Make a Difference
If you are looking for something extra special to do with your loved ones, consider volunteering your free time to helping those in need. Various families need assistance during the holiday seasons. Gather your friends and family for a day of giving! For ideas on how to help, check out your local soup kitchen, hospital or homeless shelter.

The best way to celebrate the season is by doing special things with the people you care about the most. Whether that is making crafts or exploring your neighborhood, you can make memorable moments that bring joy to the season. What are you looking forward to this winter?

Every holiday season, I buy gifts for my friends and family and give them out those gifts. I also go to the public library to get a lot of books!!! And, yeah, watch movies with your family. That's a brilliant idea, too!

I think my favorite part of the holidays is having all my family come to visit! I also love sitting by the fire starting, and finishing a book in one day!
